Why is an actor hired to star in a movie? Yeah, they need to be ok at acting, but what they are really doing is selling themselves and the movie. The acting can come further down the billing. If you are not willing to talk to the press and promote your movie, you are not going to be working long in movies, no matter how good of an actor you are. For his past couple of movies press tours, Tom Hardy has developed a reputation for being the absolute worst person on earth to deal with. If anything, his behavior has become worse, and those offers are going to dry up. He might a be a good actor, but you know what? There are lots of other actors out there who can do just as good of a job and are willing to make nice with the press.
Drew McWeeny is a reporter for HitFix. He interviewed most of the cast for Revenant, but Tom Hardy blew Drew and the rest of the reporters waiting for him off.
For four hours, the reporters waited for their one on one interviews with Hardy. Reportedly he needed a nap, but after his nap just decided he didn’t want to talk to any reporters. In his last press junket, Hardy only gave one word answers and refused to do much more than that.
Congrats to Drew for publicly calling out Hardy. As Drew said in one of his Tweets, Hardy counts on the press to stay quiet and not say anything if they want to continue being given access. Apparently enough is enough and there is a line you don’t cross.
